NEW ENGLAND PROFESSIONAL SPORTS REPORT  June 29, 2013

Concerning the Boston Red Sox

Our first place #Boston Red Sox team started well the second half of the season, winning last night's game  7-5. The Red Sox beat the Toronto Blue Jays again and raised their #UBWS (Unless Big Winning Streak) score to +32.0. Allen Webster pitched better, although Coach Farrell should have removed him sooner, after the sixth inning. Andrew Bailey, the first reliever, struck out two batters and gave up his habitual home run. Andrew Miller and Koji Uehara, the following relievers, did a really good job. The batters started well, scoring runs in the second, third and fourth innings. All of the starting Boston batters had at least one hit, excep for Jarrod Saltalamacchia. Five batters had two or more hits. Dustin Pedroia, Jacoby Ellsbury, Stephen Drew, and Jonny Gomes had key hits.

As of today, the daily composite score for each team in the Eastern Division of the American League is the following:

  • Boston  +32.0
  • Baltimore  +25.2
  • New York Yankees  +19.6
  • Tampa Bay  +14.9
  • Toronto  +10.6
As we mentioned previously, we start to update our daily UBWS statistics for each @Major League Baseball team by following these steps:

  1. Determine the number of wins.
  2. Determine the number of losses.
  3. Subtract the number of losses from the number of wins, getting a positive or negative total.
The next two statistics that interest us are the following:

4. Find number of games remaing in the regular season.
5. Determine what would be the number for ten percent of the remaining games.

Although we are showing you these steps as bullet points, you can easily format a chart with six columns at the moment. First, put the name of the team in the first column and then the appropriate statistic in each other column. Now let's apply all of the above UBWS steps to Boston and its division.

  • Boston:  49 wins, 33 losses, difference of +16, 80 games left, 10%= 8.0, final total of +32.0
  • Baltimore:  45 wins, 36 losses, difference of +9, 81 games left, 10%= 8.1, final total of +25.2
  • New York Yankees:  42 wins, 37 losses, difference of +5, 83 games left, 10%= 8.3, final total of +19.8
  •  Tampa Bay:  41 wins, 39 losses, difference of +2, 82 games left, 10%= 8.2, final total of +14,9
  • Toronto:  39 wins, 40 losses, difference of -1, 83 games left, 10%= 8.3, final total of 10.6
Greetings to all my followers in the United States, Venezuela, Russia, Germany, Holland, and Pakistan.
