Concerning the Boston Red Sox
Thursday afternoon the first place #Boston Red Sox (now 53-34) completed the three-game sweep of the San Diego Padres (now 40-46), beating them by the score of 8-2. This was the Boston's third straight good pitching performance in the series. This third victory in the series raised the Red Sox's #UBWS (Unless Big Win Streak) composite score to +34.0. Allen Webster pitched six (6) good innings, giving up just two (2) runs. Relievers Andrew Bailey, Alex Wilson, and Craig Breslow pitched well the rest of the game. All Boston batters contributed to the team's eighteen (18) hits, led by Jacoby Ellsbury with three (3) hits, including a home run. Shane Victorino, Dustin Pedroia, David Ortiz, Mike Napoli, Jonny Gomes, Ryan Lavarnway, and José Iglesias each had two (2) hits. Brandon Snyder chipped in with a home run. The Red Sox scored two (2) runs in the bottom of the first inning and maintained or increased their lead the rest of the game.
Yesterday in the American League East Division Boston, Tampa Bay, and the Yankees won. Baltimore and Toronto lost.
Tonight the Red Sox begin their ten-game West Coast games by playing the Los Angeles Angels. Felix Doubront is expected to start for Boston.
