About the Boston Red Sox

Yesterday, the #BostonRedSox, Eastern Division leaders of the American League (now with a record of 61 wins, 41 losses, and a composite UBWS (#UnlessBigWinningStreak) score of +32.0), won their game against the Tampa Bay Rays, holders of one of the American League wild cards for the playoffs (now with a record of 59 wins, 42 losses, and a composite UBWS score of +29.2). The final score of the game was    6-2, in favor of Boston.

Tampa Bay scored its first run in the top of the second inning, due to a solo home run, and its second run in the top of the fifth inning, also due to a home run with nobody on base. Meanwhile, the Red Sox matched Tampa Bay's first run with one of their own in the bottom of the same inning, followed by another run in the bottom of the third inning, and a third run in the bottom of the fifth inning. Boston's last three (3) runs scored in the eighth inning to ensure the win.

Boston's Jon Lester pitched 6.1 good innings, allowing just the two (2) runs previously mentioned. The following three (3) relievers, Matt Thornton, Junichi Tazawa, and Koji Uehara collectively pitched the final 2.2 innings, not allowing any more runs to score.

Boston's batters had twelve (12) hits. David Ortiz, Mike Napoli, and Jarrod Saltalamacchia had two (2) hits each. Five (5) of the other six (6) starting batters also had a hit. Only Dustin Pedroia did not get his hit. However, he was active in the game. He got on base by being hit with a pitch, stole a base, and drove in a run with a sacrifice fly. Four (4) different players drove in Boston's six (6) runs.

Yesterday in the Eastern Division, Boston and the New York Yankees won their games. Tampa Bay, Baltimore, and Toronto lost their games.

Today's game is the third game in this four-game series between the two (2) best teams in the American League right now. The expected starting pitchers are Felix Doubront for Boston and David Price for Tampa Bay.

With their victory last night, the Boston Red Sox are just nine (9) wins away from reaching their first objective of getting more than the 69 victories that last year's team won. Along with Boston's UBWS statistics we shall also present Tampa Bay's, since they are only a game and a half (1.5) behind the Red Sox. The UBWS statistics for the two (2) teams are the following:
